Again, my thanks & appreciation to the Combo's Reunion Steering Committee!!! Needless to say, I was completely surprised & speechless! My wife, Clara, commented, "You've never been absent for words," when Betty presented it and the microphone to me...

EDITOR'S NOTE: These Combo Reunion were taken and snail-mailed by Neil Dobbins of Class 48. He tried to identify folks with names on the backside of most pictures. If you are NOT identified, then write and say which picture you are in. Each thumbnail or rows across
has four pictures in the HTML table so you should NOT have any trouble saying what row and picture you're talking about! We had a great reunion and our thanks go out
to the folks who had a part in planning it! Betty Brooks (Yarbrough) mailed the last picture in table (The Bloodymary Girls)!

It was at Little Rock Senior High School that our lives became entwined,
and dear old LRHS is still the glue that bonds us together, even in time
of death.
We are gathered today to pay tribute to the memory of our fellow alumni
who have gone on before us. It is with somberness that we remember each
life, yet as we recall each name we can still picture those youthful
faces without a trace of wrinkles or hairs of gray. Those poignant
memories and strong emotions can never be erased.
Ready, in their youth, to face the challenges of the world they, as
Abraham and prophets of old, did not fully comprehend what lay ahead in
their earthly journey of life. Still they were prepared to face each joy,
or sorrow, that life handed them, with godly principles taught in their
generation, at home, and yes, at dear old LRHS. Those principles that
guided them are so often discarded in this present generation.
After graduation we went our separate ways with bits of information about
one another trickling down from time to time.
Some seemed to sail to places of honor, while others faced difficulties
and tests as few are ever required to endure, such as prolonged illnesses
of their own or their mates or serving our country on the battle field of
war.
The Scriptures tell us that we are God's workmanship, created in His
image and fearfully and wonderfully made. Each touched the world and
left their mark by unique fingerprints imparted by their Maker.
Psalm 90:10 says "The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and
if by reason of strength they be four score years, yet is there strength
labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away."
Perhaps that is where we got the old song "When I die hallelujah, by and
by, I'll fly away. I prefer to sing, "Hallelujah, I'll not die, I'll
just fly away."
Most of us have reached those seventy years and are nearing the fourscore
ones and should we meet again, even next year, some of us in all
probability will be missing. Who will it be?
As David the shepherd boy faced the enemy of Israel, he fearlessly used
his God-given abilities to fell the giant Goliath with only his slingshot
and some smooth stones. Those who have gone before us, with their faith,
have faced that final giant. DEATH!
Hebrews 12 says we are compassed about with so great a cloud of
witnesses. What if some of those witnesses are our old friends who are
watching us today? If they could speak what might they say? Would they
ask about the latest game score or shopping bargains? Or how are the
grandchildren? I think not!
Perhaps they would ask, "Have you prepared for your final journey? Have
you made peace with God and man?
Could I, could you, answer as St. Paul, " I have fought a good fight, I
have finished my course, I have kept the faith?" Or like another old song
says, "It is well with my soul"?
And when we face our last enemy, we too can say, " O death where is thy
sting, or grave where is thy victory?"
As the tribes of Israel crossed over Jordan, Joshua their leader told
twelve men to select stones from the River Jordan, carry them on their
shoulders and stack them on dry ground "that this may be sign to you."
Then he told them "When your children ask their fathers in time to come
"What mean ye by these stones?" Answer, "These stones are for a memorial
to when the Jordan River was held back for us to pass over."
We have no stones today, but we do have a flower to be placed on the
water for each name that is called. Should others ask, "What is the
meaning of this?" We can answer, "It is for a memorial to our comrades
who have touched our lives and the world and gone before us, leaving
their legacy for generations to come."

Wow, I sure missed a great time. We (Class of 49) are planning on our 55th next year so did not join up, much to my sorrow. It sure looked like a great party and I could have seen you again after all these years. I should point out that when Westside was originally built it had a swimming pool. It was covered up by the time any of us got there. The Gym is over it. The pool still exists, is floored over, and is no longer in use and will likely never be again. Westside is being converted into apartments and is looking good. (There are apparently going to be some rooms in what used to be the balcony in the Gym) The auditorium is much bigger than I remembered and in fair shape but I don't think renovation of it is in the current plans.
Eastside is already converted into apartments and has residents, that is likely the reason a 'tour' was not available. Kramer is also a bunch of apartments mostly for 'aspiring' artists with very low rent. (Kramer was the first of the schools to be renovated,) There is a very large 'gallery' that is used for painting and showing paintings. All three are, or will be, private apartments and not necessarily open for touring. I will try to get some more pictures of each of the schools if you think folks would be interested in them.
Best to all,
Bill Floyd (Tiger, 1949)
